Job Description

We are seeking a Civil Engineering Lead Energy – Remote. This remote position is based out of our Richland, Washington office.

Your Role

  • Serves as the recognized expert on civil engineering design for nuclear facilities within AtkinsRéalis US Nuclear.
  • Anticipates internal or external business challenges and regulatory issues.
  • Recommends engineering process and service improvements, with a focus on the civil engineering discipline.
  • Identifies innovative solutions to unique and complex problems that have a broad impact on the business.
  • Works independently, requiring guidance only in the most challenging situations.
  • Leads civil engineering functional teams and may lead project teams in meeting milestones and objectives.
  • Applies extensive civil engineering expertise and broad knowledge of nuclear facility design, construction, operations, and maintenance.
  • Directs research and resolves unprecedented technical problems of considerable scope and complexity.
  • Makes independent decisions and resolves important technical questions while serving as a regional or national authority within and outside the company.
  • Provides oversight and supervision for the technical work of senior professionals.
  • Interfaces with senior technical managers and all levels of company management.
  • Provides companywide technical direction within the position's area of expertise.
  • Establishes project technical criteria and provides technical direction to project managers and team members.
  • Represents and defends the company's technical work before clients, regulatory agencies, hearings, and legal proceedings.
  • Participates in technical and professional organizations at a prominent leadership level.
  • Participates in technical quality assurance reviews and assists with specialty discipline project audits.
  • Develops and maintains companywide professional standards, guidelines, design procedures, and technical quality assurance requirements.
  • Monitors technical staff compliance with professional standards, procedures, guidelines, and technical documentation.
  • Participates in developing and implementing internal technical development programs.
  • Coordinates employee participation in conferences, seminars, coursework, and other professional development opportunities.
  • Works with operational managers to identify staffing needs, workforce deficiencies, and recruitment opportunities.
  • Assists with identifying, screening, recruiting, and orienting qualified candidates for key technical vacancies.
  • Leads initiatives involving considerable risk and complexity and develops the related execution strategy.
  • Uses conceptual and innovative thinking to develop solutions for complex problems with broad business impact.
  • Influences the direction and allocation of resources for initiatives, projects, and services.
  • Communicates complex ideas, anticipates objections, and persuades senior stakeholders to consider different perspectives.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

About You

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in Civil Engineering.
  • At least 15 years of relevant technical experience. Typical candidates at this level have 20 to 25 years of experience.
  • Professional Engineer license required, with the ability to obtain licensure in multiple jurisdictions.
  • Strong communication skills within a challenging, multitiered environment.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to establish goal alignment among participants with differing interests.
  • Expert knowledge of design codes and standards governing commercial nuclear facilities.
  • Participation in appropriate national consensus standards or code committees is preferred.

Codes and Standards

  • NRC Regulatory Guides 1.136 and 1.142.
  • ACI 318, ACI 349, and ACI 359 requirements for concrete structures.
  • NRC Regulatory Guide 1.243 and ANSI/AISC N690 requirements for safety related steel structures.
  • NRC guidelines for Probabilistic Seismic Hazard Analysis for nuclear power reactors.

Technical and Industry Experience

  • Expert knowledge of civil and structural design software, including ANSYS.
  • Structural Engineer license is desirable.
  • Senior design experience involving commercial and Department of Energy nuclear reactor projects.
  • Senior design experience involving commercial and Department of Energy nuclear fuel cycle facilities.
  • Nuclear Steam Supply System Original Equipment Manufacturer experience.
Citizenship requirement: Applicants must be United States citizens to be considered.

Compensation

$146,000 to $244,000 annually

Expected compensation depends on the candidate's skills, experience, and geographic location.
